Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamna and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) executive president and MP Supriya Sule recently heaped praises on Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The reason behind the sudden popularity of Fadnavis among the opposition is his decision to visit the naxal-affected Gadchiroli district on January 1. He spent the entire day in the district.
In Gadchiroli, Fadnavis expressed his desire to become the guardian minister of the district. The chief minister also said he would work hard to root out Naxalism from the district. Fadnavis also flagged off a bus service from Garde Vada to Aheri so that tribals could benefit from services operated by the state transport corporation.
Interestingly, 11 hardcore Naxals including Tarakka, wife of senior Naxal leader Bhupathi, surrendered in the presence of the chief minister. Tarakka has been part of the Naxal movement for more than three decades.
Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamna carried an editorial on Fadnavis' Gadchiroli visit. The piece titled 'Congratulations Deva Bhau' praises the chief minister's statement that he wants Gadchiroli to become the 'steel city' of Maharashtra, and the plant of Lloyd Industries was a step in that direction.

Maharashtra politics has witnessed a bitter war of words between Fadnavis and Uddhav Sena since the Eknath Shinde government came to office. The war of words intensified during election season. Later, after Fadnavis became chief minister for the third time, Uddhav Thackeray went and met Fadnavis in Nagpur to wish him luck. It is on this background that the piece in Saamna assumes significance.
"When many of his cabinet colleagues are busy squabbling over certain creamy portfolios and guardian ministership of key districts, Fadnavis started work and reached Gadchiroli to launch a new era of development," said the editorial in Saamna.
NCP leader Supriya Sule said that it was her party's leader and former home minister late R.R. Patil who took keen interest in the development of Gadchiroli district and it is very good to see that Fadnavis is continuing the process. She also stated that Fadnavis is the only one who has started working sincerely.
