The Muslim cleric who has asked for a stop to mass conversions during the mahakumbh, fired a fresh salvo by claiming that the mela is being held on waqf land.

The president of the All India Muslim Jamat, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi, said that Muslims had always displayed a large heart, and this included not grudging the use of waqf land for the Mahakumbh. In turn, he said, there were repeated calls being made for Muslims to keep away from the kumbh.

“Such calls have indeed been made. The All India Akhara Parishad has asked not only for a ban on the entry of Muslims but also asked that no non-Sanatanis be given permission to set up stalls in the mela area. They have also asked devotees and attendees not to give any business to Muslims.”

Barelvi, in a video message, said that such narrow-mindedness would have to be abandoned and they (Hindus) would have to display the same large-heartedness that Muslims did. “They (Muslims) have not raised any objections over the 55 bigha of waqf land being used for the Kumbh”, he said.

In response, Chakrapani Maharaj, chairperson of the Hindu Mahasabha said that the Maulana and others like him seemed to be sponsored by Pakistan and ‘people with a terrorist mindset’. He labelled them “extremists”.

He called for such people to be investigated as they were trying to vitiate the atmosphere in what is being billed as the largest peaceful spiritual congregation. Chakrapani Maharaj has called for FIRs to be lodged against all such people who are trying to create controversies around the Mahakumbh.

He labelled such people ‘neech’ (despicable) for trying to vitiate a celebration during which prayers were made for the well-being of all people across the world. “Such people should be arrested at once”, Chakrapani Maharaj said.
