In a dreadful case of animal cruelty, 32 dogs, with their mouths and legs tied, were thrown off a 40-foot bridge in Telangana. The incident has sparked outrage among citizens and animal lovers alike and they demanded stern action against miscreants. Telangana police have registered a case and a probe is underway.
The incident came to light on January 4, When 'Citizens for Animals', an animal welfare organization received an unknown message regarding the tragic cries near the site in Eddumailaram Village, Sangareddy in Telangana. The rescuers described it as one of the most horrific and disturbing scenes they’ve ever witnessed and the injured dogs were crying and moaning. As per reports, the animals were thrown tied up to prevent them from saving themselves.
According to reports, maggots had infested many of the carcasses that were floating on the still water. The surviving dogs were severely shivering from being in the water for so long. Prithvi Paneru, one of the citizens who volunteered to rescue, said it was nothing less than a nightmare.
The welfare organization reached out to ‘People for Animals’ (PFA) and Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) for help with the rescue. The injured dogs were immediately taken to the PFA shelter in Nagole, Hyderabad. The animals were given immediate medical care, however, the canines are still in critical condition.

This atrocious crime has infuriated the animal lovers' community, and they demanded harsher legislation to prevent cruelty against animals.
The penalty for animal cruelty in India is ridiculously low, with only up to 50 rupees. The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, has not been revised in over 60 years.
“Animal cruelty has reached an alarming level so we urge the authorities to prioritize this case the same way they would deal with a case if human lives were at stake” stated Prithvi.
Telangana police have sent the animal carcasses for autopsy. Police are probing to identify the culprits who committed the cruelty.
