A three-day orientation programme for its MLAs started today in Jammu. The sessions will be held at the Central Hall of the Legislative Assembly Complex in Jammu.
The event is jointly organised by the Assembly Secretariat and the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE) under the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
This programme will familiarise MLAs with their roles and responsibilities in governance.
The Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir was constituted on October 8, 2024, after the elections in September and October. Notably, 50 MLAs are serving as MLAs for the first time.
The inauguration will be attended by the chief minister, deputy chief minister, speaker of the legislative assembly, and other senior officials.
The sessions will focus on equipping legislators with knowledge of parliamentary practices, procedures and business in the assembly.

Experienced parliamentarians, including Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Chairperson of the Committee on Estimates, N.K. Premachandran, and Dr Satya Pal Singh, former members of the Lok Sabha, will share their insights. Senior officers from the Lok Sabha Secretariat will also contribute to the programme.
The discussion will cover legislative processes, the formulation and passage of budgets, the use of questions to ensure executive accountability, the committee system, and how legislators can access and use information effectively.
A special session on the National e-Vidhan Application (NEVA) will introduce participants to technology designed to digitise legislative processes.
This initiative aims to prepare MLAs for their legislative duties by enhancing their understanding of governance and policy-making. It is expected to enable them to serve their constituencies more effectively, contributing to the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.
