Revamped e-Migrate portal now supports regional languages

The Central government has launched a revamped version of the e-Migrate portal to mark Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025. This upgraded platform is designed to enhance the experience of Indian workers emigrating abroad by incorporating modern open-source technologies and improved functionalities to meet evolving demands.

First introduced in May 2014, the e-Migrate portal was originally developed to streamline the emigration process for Indian workers holding Emigration Check Required (ECR) passports to 18 notified countries. It provided a contactless interface between recruiting agents and foreign employers while ensuring transparency and efficiency in recruitment. The new version, e-Migrate V 2.0, builds on this foundation with several significant upgrades.

The updated platform is built on a microservices-based architecture, offering scalability and flexibility. Its decoupled interface enables independent updates to the user interface and backend processes, allowing seamless integration with platforms such as mobile apps, websites, and third-party applications. This enhances user accessibility across various devices.

Security has been significantly enhanced in the new portal. Features such as multi-factor authentication, robust encryption protocols, and regular security audits safeguard user data. Integration with DigiLocker ensures seamless document validation and secure storage. Users can now access documents issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), including registration certificates, emigration clearance certificates, and country-specific orders, via public cloud storage with secure and consented access.

A key highlight of the revamped portal is its multilingual support, enabled through Bhashini, which allows users to access services in regional languages. The platform is also integrated with the Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance (UMANG), providing a single interface for accessing pan-India e-governance services spanning Central to local government bodies.

The portal's accessibility has been further extended through Common Services Centres (CSCs), making it available even in remote areas. Over six lakh Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) across India will assist workers in using the portal, registering grievances, and accessing advisory services in their native languages.
