The Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP is set to begin ‘Samvidhan Gaurav Abhiyan', a campaign designed as a direct response to the Samajwadi Party and the Congress positioning themselves as guardians of the Constitution in the recent Lok Sabha elections, from January 11.

The campaign, which will go on till January 25, will include discussions with the broader public at various levels and direct interactions with the young through school and college visits.

The focus of the campaign is the Dalit population, and the message the party wants to deliver is that the BJP is the party that gives maximum respect to B. R. Ambedkar’s principles and to the ideals of the Constitution. The rallying cry for the campaign is: ‘Humara Samvidhan Humara Swabhiman’(Our Constitution, our pride).

Dalits count for more than one-fifth of the voters in Uttar Pradesh.

The outreach has been divided into two phases. The first phase will cover districts including Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Agra and Ghaziabad, while the remaining districts will be covered in phase two.

To engage with the young, debates, quizzes and essay writing competitions will be organised. The party’s Yuva Morcha activists will go to hostels at academic institutions to engage with students.

The campaign will go down right to the booth level, where party workers are to gather people for discussions on the Constitution, and also on how the BJP has upheld its values.

The party also hopes to drive home the message that the Congress and the Samajwadi Party have merely used the Constitution for electoral gains. Party workers will also stress their belief that the opposition has disrespected both Ambedkar and the Constitution. The BJP will highlight how a ‘conspiracy’ by Jawaharlal Nehru made Ambedkar lose the elections, and also how the party did not give him a Bharat Ratna.

The Samajwadi Party will be targeted for usurping the benefits of reservation and also renaming a medical college in Kannuaj. Last year, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had brought up the issue and said the college shall be renamed after Ambedkar.

Besides the youth wing, the party’s SC/ST morcha, the women’s wing, MPs, MLAs and all-party level functionaries will be involved in the campaign.

Ram Chandra Kannaujia, who heads the party’s SC/ST wing said his party would ‘expose’ the opposition through this intensive campaign.
