Lashing out at Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi for walking out of the assembly without reading his customary speech at the beginning of the session, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said the governor did so since he is unable to stomach Tamil Nadu’s growth.
Replying to the governor’s address at the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Stalin said the house has been witnessing strange scenes ever since Ravi took over as governor of the state. “The governor comes to the assembly but returns without addressing the house. That's why I had said that his actions were childish," Stalin said addressing the assembly.
“As per Article 176 of the Constitution, the governor has to deliver his address to the legislative assembly at the commencement of the session, but he appears to be keen on violating the rules in a planned manner," the chief minister said. Stalin added though Ravi delivered the address in 2022, he avoided delivering his customary address citing 'absurd' reasons during the next three years.

Stalin said the governor refused to accept the clarification given by the state that as per convention, Tamil Thai Vazhuthu is played at the beginning of the governor’s address and the national anthem is played at the end. “By daring not to respect the dignity of the house and the feelings of the people and insulting the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, he has sought to denigrate the post he is holding with political motives. The assembly has not witnessed it in the past and should not witness it in the future,” The Hindu reported quoting the chief minister.
The governor’s address became a flashpoint between Ravi and the Tamil Nadu government this year as well and the former walked out of the assembly accusing the state government of brazenly disrespecting the Constitution and national anthem. In a statement issued by Raj Bhavan, the governor said despite request, the chief minister and speaker refused to play national anthem at the beginning of his speech.
