The Jammu and Kashmir government has set up an online Right to Information (RTI) portal to make the government more open and responsible.
With this new system, people in J&K can now file RTI requests online, just like in a few other Union Territories. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) designed the portal to make submitting and tracking RTI requests easy.
Applicants can now send their requests, track their status, and get responses without visiting government offices; this saves time and cuts down delays. Once a request is submitted, applicants receive a registration number through SMS or email to help them track their applications.
The portal is connected to 61 government departments, 272 nodal officers, 720 First Appellate Authorities, and 3,419 Public Information Officers, covering all major departments.
To help the system work well, nodal officers have been assigned in each department to assist with the platform. During the launch, M. Raju, the Secretary of the General Administration Department, talked about how this portal will enhance accountability, save money, and speed up responses.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised the new portal as a significant step toward better governance. He highlighted that it will make it easier for people to access information and called on officials to raise awareness.
The launch was held at the civil secretariat and was attended by important leaders, including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, cabinet ministers, and senior government officials.
This online portal is a significant achievement for Jammu and Kashmir. It uses technology to make the government more accessible and transparent, allowing citizens to get information quickly and easily. This is a big move towards cutting red tape and building trust between the government and the people.
