The BJP’s massive victory in the assembly elections has ended NCP founder Sharad Pawar’s politics of betrayal and treachery in Maharashtra, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday.
Launching a scathing attack on Pawar and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, Shah said the people of Maharashtra have shown both the leaders their place by rejecting the politics of dynasty and betrayal.
“Sharad Pawar started politics of daga-phatka' (betrayal and treachery) in Maharashtra in 1978, which was rejected by people in 2024 (elections). Similarly, the politics of the dynasty and the betrayal of Uddhav Thackeray was also rejected,” he said.

The home minister was addressing a BJP convention at Shirdi.
The BJP-led Mhayuti alliance swept the assembly elections, bagging 230 of the 288 seats in the state. The BJP became the single largest party, pocketing 132 seats.
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, which comprises Congress, Pawar’s NCP(SP) and Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) was reduced to 46 seats.
“People showed Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray their place in the 2024 polls. They sent both home and made the real Shiv Sena and NCP victorious along with BJP,” Shah said.
In 1978, Shah walked out of Vasantdada Patil government with 40 MLAs and became the CM.
Shah further targeted Pawar, saying he had held the CM post, headed several cooperative institutions and was also the Union agriculture minister, but couldn't stop farmer suicides.
The home minister asked BJP workers to focus on strengthening the party at the booth level and include women and farmers in large numbers.
