Security has been increased across Kashmir as Prime Minister Narendra Modi prepares to visit Sonamarg to inaugurate the Z-Morh tunnel. Sonamarg has been closed to the public, and additional personnel have been deployed to ensure safety.

Checkpoints have been set up at key locations, and security forces are conducting random checks of people and vehicles, including two-wheelers. Patrolling has also been intensified to prevent any threats.

The road from Srinagar to Sonamarg has been sealed by the CRPF and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Only vehicles with valid security passes are allowed through after thorough inspections. The Prime Minister’s Special Protection Group (SPG) has taken charge of security at the event site.

Sonamarg and the Z-Morh tunnel have been decorated for the occasion, creating a festive atmosphere despite sub-zero-temperatures.

The event, scheduled for 11:45 AM, is in its final stages of preparation. Key leaders like Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Dr Jitendra Singh, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will attend.

The Z-Morh tunnel is expected to bring major benefits to the region. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah explained it will provide year-round connectivity to Sonamarg, which was previously accessible only in summer.

The tunnel will boost tourism and help residents in winter. He also shared plans to develop Sonamarg as a winter sports destination, similar to Gulmarg.

Prime Minister Modi will meet with construction workers to recognise their dedication in building the tunnel under extreme conditions. The tunnel will improve travel between Srinagar and Leh, with even greater connectivity expected once the Zojila tunnel is completed.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha will also speak at the event, highlighting the developmental progress in Jammu and Kashmir and the Z-Morh tunnel’s role as a symbol of modernisation and growth in the region.
