Former Union minister Sanjeev Balyan has alleged that his security has been removed as he had tried to highlight police corruption in Muzaffarnagar, his constituency.
Balyan has written to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, saying that a piece of land in Kanupur village had been bought by the employees of the local distillery to build a temple and a dharmshala.
The papers for ownership of this land, as per Balyan, were manipulated such that the ownership of the land went to the distillery. Additionally, false cases were registered against the employees of the distillery.
On January 12, Balyan went with the employees to the local thana to get the issue sorted out. In the letter, he said that even before this date, he had complained about the false possession of the land to senior police officials in the district.
Balyan has appealed to the CM to do justice in the case. In the letter he writes, “…as I have seen your life’s journey, I am sure you will take action…”
The direct result of his confrontation with the police was that Balyan’s ‘Y plus’ security has been withdrawn.
In April 2024, during an election meeting, Balyan and his followers’ cars were vandalized.
Balyan has drawn attention to that incident and said if this happens to a former minister, what would be the situation of a common BJP worker in the state.
The district police has also allegedly removed security from Balyan’s home.
Balyan has written that he is not afraid for himself, as his safety is in the hands of the people of Muzaffarnagar. However, if anything happens to him, the administration should be held responsible, he said.
Balyan was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014 and 2019. He has held charge of the ministries of agriculture and food processing, and of animal husbandry and dairy among others.
