A 15-year-old boy from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh killed himself after his family reprimanded him for keeping bad company. The boy was reportedly upset at his family's decision to sell a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle, which was in the teen's possession.
The incident happened on January 12 in the Bhawanpur area. Police identified the youth as Yuvraj Rana, a class 9 student. "The incident occurred on Saturday night at Apex Colony when Yuvraj shot himself. The family is yet to file a formal complaint," SHO Dharmendra Kumar told reporters.
The official added that the boy's elder brother had gone to pick up their mother, a nurse at a government hospital when the incident happened.
The boy's mother said she saw him on the balcony of their house when she returned from work around 8 pm on Saturday. The boy then entered his room and shot himself.
Police investigation revealed that Yuvraj extensively searched 'Garuda Purana', 'what happens after death', 'methods of death' and 'where the soul goes after death' on Google and YouTube prior to his death. However, there was no suicide note.
Police have recovered a .315-bore country-made pistol from him and are investigating how the boy obtained the weapon. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.
