Given the expected high footfall of pilgrims from Prayagraj to Varanasi, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple management committee has made some changes to the manner of darshan.

As part of this, the temple trust has decided to suspend sparsh darshan till February 28.

A sparsh darshan is the one wherein devotees are allowed to touch the shivling. During this darshan, a shastri accompanies the devotees and they also get special prasad.

In addition, tickets during the said period, will be available only for the Mangala arti. This is the first arti of the day when the deity is aroused from the state of sleep. There are three other kinds of artis during the day but bookings for all these shall remain suspended.

The sugam darshan, wherein one can skip the normal queue against the payment of a fee of Rs 500, too will remain suspended between the magala arti and 2 pm. Special darshan will be allowed only between 2 and 4 pm.

On normal days, devotees can have a darshan of the deity from one door of the sanctum sanctorum. However, to ease the flow for the increased number of devotees, darshan will now be possible from all four doors.

The temple management committee has appealed to the devotees to follow these rules so that all can have a smooth, hassle free experience at the temple.

Besides many private tour operators offering packages that cover other holy cities from Prayagraj, the Indian railways has also come up with the Maha Kumbh Punya Kshetra Yatra. This seven night, eight day yatra will cover Varanasi, Ayodhya and Prayagraj. Seating will be available in sleeper, third AC and second AC categories. Prices range between Rs 23,035 and Rs 39558 per adult individual.
