On her 69th birthday on Wednesday, Mayawati claimed that many of the policies and programmes implemented by her during her four terms as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh were now being copied though the intent behind them was not clear.

Mayawati’s birthday is celebrated as People’s Welfare Day by her party workers who are expected to talk about the successes of her government. She was last CM between 2007 and 2012.

Taking to X, the Bahujan Samaj Party chief said that while her policies had benefited the poor, Dalits, tribals, backward classes, minorities, and the youth, the same when copied by the governments of the day were unable to bring any change because proper intention behind them was lacking.

She also called upon all those who had benefited in her regimes to understand the chasm between what other parties said and did. It was time, she said, that they returned to the ideals of Bhim Rao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram for a way out of the poverty, unemployment and inflation, which was rampant.

Mayawati said that all such classes should now come together else they would be slaves and helpless throughout their lives.

She said that if her workers would devote themselves to strengthening the party and movement, the BSP would be back in power and people would be assured a life of respect.

The BSP chief also mentioned a new book, A travelogue of My Struggle Ridden Life and BSP, a compilation of the trials of the party and the movement over the last year, which was being released in Hindi and English. She urged her supporters, especially the youth, to read it.

She also said that if there was a free and fair election, her party would come back stronger, provided there was no tampering with the EVMs.

Criticism was also directed towards the Aam Aadmi Party for the treatment it meted out to people from neighbouring states, especially those from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

She also gave a nod to nephew Akash Anand whom she said was leading the party’s poll preparations with complete dedication as BSP's national coordinator.

She concluded her four page missive with the hope that her supporters would give her a special birthday present by enhancing the party’s performance in the Delhi Vidhan Sabha polls and then the Bihar Assembly polls.
