Over the years, an annual trip to Davos has become mandatory for Telugu state representatives who consider it a golden opportunity to promote their respective states and bag investments. The figures also matter as there is pressure to break the previous year’s records.
In 2023, the then BRS government could manage MoUs worth around Rs 21,000 crores for Telangana and in 2024, the new Congress government managed to breach the figure and signed agreements worth Rs 40,000 crores. The Congress camp saw this as one of their first success immediately after winning the election.
In 2025, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy along with Industries Minister, Sridhar Babu and a delegation of senior state officials will once again travel to Davos for the World Economic Forum (WEF) where they intend to cross last year’s Rs 40,000 crore investment mark. This time around, the Telangana government wants to introduce and invite investors to the ‘future city’ or the fourth city which is located to the south of core Hyderabad.
Hyderabad is the first city to come up followed by Secunderabad and in later years, Hi-Tec city or the IT corridor is seen as the third city.
Now, Revanth Reddy government envisions a new city that could be built from scratch that will have less pollution and carbon emissions and be as futuristic and modern as Dubai and Singapore. Already, the state is looking at making the future city an AI, sports and tourism hub.
The chief minister has already directed metro officials to work on a project report for extending the metro line to the future city. The state delegation will be in Davos from January 20 to 22 but prior to that, the team will be in Singapore from January 16 to 20, to study skill and sports centres and the future city is also expected to pop up in the official meetings there.
The Telangana government has informed that last year’s 2024 Davos participation was fruitful as 14 companies have come forward to invest in the state and out of 18 projects signed, 17 are already under various stages of execution.
