Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is set to chair the first cabinet meeting of 2025 in Jammu on January 20.

According to available information, the meeting will address several critical issues, including a proposal to approve the Dearness Allowance (DA) installment for government employees, pensioners, and family pensioners, effective from 1 July 2024.

This initiative aims to provide financial relief to government staff and their families amidst rising living costs.

Discussions are anticipated on implementing a tiered faculty structure at the Government Dental College, Srinagar, and the Indira Gandhi Government Dental College, Jammu.

The cabinet is also expected to propose removing interviews for Pay Level-6 posts, with selections to be based solely on merit through written tests.

Another key item on the agenda is finalising the Excise Policy for 2025. This new policy will facilitate the operationalisation of new liquor vends while ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

Proposed amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Goods and Services Tax Act of 2017 will also be reviewed, aiming to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of tax administration in the region.

Waste management is another pressing concern, with a particular focus on the Achan dumping site.

Plans have been outlined for the bio-mining of 11 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste at an estimated cost of Rs 60.50 crore, with Rs 33 crore sourced from the 14th Finance Commission and Rs 27.50 crore from the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0.

The cabinet will seek approval to construct a new emergency operation theatre block at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar.

Additionally, a recommendation is expected to be made regarding the scheduling of the upcoming Budget Session of the Legislature.

Various other projects and schemes, including post facto administrative approvals, will also be discussed. Once finalised, decisions will be forwarded to the Lieutenant Governor for approval.
