Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Donald Trump, who took oath as the 47th president of the United States on Monday. Representing India, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar attended the swearing-in at the White House.

As Modi's special envoy, Jaishankar carried a special letter from the prime minister and handed it over to Trump at the ceremony.
The EAM said that he was "privileged" to represent India at the swearing-in of Trump.
"Privileged to represent India as External Affairs Minister and Special Envoy of PM at the Swearing-In Ceremony of the 47th President of the United States of America today in Washington DC," he said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh attended the swearing-in of the President of Nigeria in May 2023. The Minister of Earth Sciences Kiren Rijiju attended the swearing-in of the President of Maldives in November 2023.
At the White House, tech giants including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Google's Sundar Pichai, Meta's Mark Zuckerberg, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and TikTok CEO Shou Chew attended the presidential inauguration.
Former US presidents, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama were also present.
From India, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and his wife Nita Ambani attended the inauguration. Also, notable Indian business leaders including Ashish Jain, MD of Pune-based real estate firm Kundan Spaces, Kalpesh Mehta, founder of Tribeca Developers, and Pankaj Bansal, MD of M3M Developers attended the event.
