A Mumbai court on Friday extended police custody of the alleged attacker in the Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan stabbing case till January 29. The accused was produced in court on Friday as his previous remand came to an end on Friday.

The accused, Shareeful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30), allegedly an illegal Bangladeshi was produced before a magistrate's court in Bandra and police sought an extension of his custody. The court sought an extension of seven more days. Granting the plea, the court extended police custody of the accused till January 29.

Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an alleged intruder during the early hours of January 16 at his flat in Bandra. The attacker, allegedly a Bangladeshi, stabbed the actor six times when Khan tried to overpower him. The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital for treatment. According to doctors, a 2.5-inch long broken knife part was removed from his wound near spine. The actor was discharged from the private hospital on January 21.

According to police, the accused has reportedly confessed to the crime. Police on Friday recovered a third part of the knife used to attack the actor. Police had said the attacker was a Bangladeshi and he allegedly entered India illegally. Earlier, police had recreated the crime scene by taking the accused to the actor’s residence.

Investigators on Thursday recorded the actor’s statement in the case. In his statement, the actor has reportedly said he woke up hearing the cry of his young son Jeh and his nanny. Khan said he got attacked while he tried to catch the intruder. According to police, the attacker has allegedly entered Khan’s house for burglary.
