Holkar ruled the royal family of the Holkar dynasty from 1767 to 1795 from Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh. Holkar’s cultural contribution extends much beyond the state. She built many temples, forts and other religious structures. She is also credited with the reconstruction of important religious sites like Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Somnath Temple and Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain.
Qualities of Holkar that the government is looking to promote in this landmark year include her efficient administration. Under her, the security system in the Indore state was strengthened, trade grew, and cultural and religious harmony reigned. Her love for justice and kindness was also legendary.
She not only gave priority to education, health, and infrastructure, but also tried to end the discrimination prevalent in the society by including people from every caste and community in her court. Many schemes were made to provide relief to the poor and deprived during her rule.
