On the eve of the 76th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu approved 139 Padma awards including seven Padma Vibhushan, 19 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri.

Former Suzuki chief Osamu Suzuki, folk singer Sharda Sinha and renowned Malayalam writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair were awarded Padma Vibhushan posthumously.

Others who were honoured with India's second-highest civilian honour included Duvvur Nageshwar Reddy (medicine), Justice (Retd.) Shri Jagdish Singh Khehar (public affairs), Kumudini Rajnikant Lakhia (art) and Lakshminarayana Subramaniam (art).

Former Bihar Dy Chief Minister Sushil Modi, economist Bibek Debroy, gazal singer Pankaj Udhas former Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi  (both posthumously) were honoured with Padma Bhushan.

Prasar Bharati ex-chairperson A. Surya Prakash, Sadhvi Rithambara, film-maker Shekhar Kapur Actor Anant Nag and Assam's folk culture exponent Jatin Goswami, Tamil actor Ajith Kumar, actress Shobana and hockey goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh were also awarded Padma Bhushan.

Dinamalar publisher Lakshmipathy Ramasubbaiyer was awarded Padma Shri for literature, education and journalism. Other notable faces to receive Padma Shri included former SBI chairperson Arundhati Bhattacharya, and cricketer R. Ashwin.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated all the Padma awardees and said each awardee was synonymous with hard work, passion and innovation, which has positively impacted countless lives.

“Congratulations to all the Padma awardees! India is proud to honour and celebrate their extraordinary achievements. Their dedication and perseverance are truly motivating. Each awardee is synonymous with hard work, passion and innovation, which has positively impacted countless lives.
