Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a jibe at Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kwjriwal over his “unfulfilled promise” of cleaning up the Delhi stretch of the River Yamuna.

Addressing a press conference in the national capital, Shah recalled that the former chief minister had said he would take a dip in the Yamuna after cleaning up the river.

“He (Kejriwal) had promised to clean the Yamuna River in seven years, making it as clean as London's Thames River, and said he would take a dip in front of the people of Delhi. Kejriwal ji, the public is waiting for that famous dip of yours," Shah said.

The home minister took aim at the AAP leader over a slew of issues including corruption and said the Delhi government makes only promises, but fails to fulfil them.

“In my political life, I have never seen anyone who lies so clearly," said Shah in a sharp attack on the former CM ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.

He said Kejriwal had promised not to take a government bungalow but spent over Rs 51 crore to build a 50,000-square-foot 'Sheesh Mahal.' He also accused the AAP of opening liquor shops near schools and Gurudwaras.

“He talked about a corruption-free government, but Kejriwal himself, along with many of his ministers, went to jail over corruption cases. He only got bail, and using bail as a clean chit does not absolve him from the accusations," Shah said, referring to the excise policy scam.

The most serious issue in Delhi is the level of corruption which, Shah said, had never been as high as it was under Kejriwal.

“There have been scandals like the Liquor Scam, a 28,400 crore scam in the Delhi Jal Board, a 5,400 crore scam in ration distribution, a 1,300 crore scam in school classrooms, and a 571 crore scam in CCTV installation," he said.

The AAP and the BJP are engaged in a bitter war of words over several issues as campaigning for the February 5 assembly elections gathers steam in Delhi.

While the AAP hopes for a third straight term in the capital state, the BJP aims for a strong comeback to power. In the last assembly elections, Kejriwal's party bagged 62 of the seats while the BJP managed to win only eight. The Congress, the third player, drew a blank.
