Thousands gathered at Ramlila Maidan to witness the oath-taking ceremony. The BJP is returning to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years. Among various poll promises, the ruling party has vowed to provide monthly assistance of Rs 2,500 for women in Delhi from March 8, International Women’s Day.
Earlier, Gupta told presspersons that she wouldn’t be staying at “Sheesh Mahal”, the controversial bungalow used and renovated by former chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal. Corruption in the renovation of the official bungalow, dubbed by the BJP as “Sheesh Mahal”, was one of the major poll planks of the party during the Delhi Assembly polls.
The BJP chose Gupta as chief minister over several senior BJP leaders after various rounds of deliberations. The BJP reportedly wanted a woman to head the Delhi government and the party believes it will help them gain inroads among women voters. Currently, Gupta is the only woman chief minister of the party.
