Union civil aviation minister has ordered action and directed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct an inquiry after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan narrated his “unpleasant” experience on Air India flight.

Minister of Civil Aviation Ram Mohan Naidu said he spoke with Air India authorities over the issue and directed the airline authorities to take swift action. “We spoke to Air India immediately on this issue and instructed them to take necessary action. From our side, DGCA will also be looking into the details of the matter promptly,” ANI reported quoting the minister. Naidu added he also spoke with his cabinet colleague personally regarding the issue.

Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan blasted Air India on Saturday, sharing his uncomfortable travel experience on Air India flight. The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said he was offered a broken seat on Bhopal-Delhi flight and refused to change seats as he didn’t want to trouble other passengers.

In a post on X, Chouhan said, “I had booked a ticket on Air India flight number AI436, I was allotted seat number 8C. I went and sat on the seat, the seat was broken and sunken in. It was uncomfortable to sit.” Chouhan said the airline staff told him that management had already been informed about the defective seat, which shouldn’t have been sold to passengers. Coming down heavily on Air India, Chouhan accused the airline of "cheating" passengers.

"My impression was that Air India's service would have improved after Tata took over the management, but it turned out to be my misconception. I don't care about sitting discomfort, but it is unethical to make passengers sit on bad and uncomfortable seats after charging them the full amount. Isn't this cheating the passengers?" Chouhan tweeted.

However, the airline apologised to the minister for his unpleasant experience and responded on X saying, “Please be rest assured that we are looking into this matter carefully to prevent any such occurrences in the future.”
