The chairman of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams board has written to the Union aviation minister, urging him to declare the Tirupati temple premises as no-fly zone as aerial activities disturb the ‘sacred atmosphere’ at the temple.

In his letter to Union CivilAviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu, TTD chairman B.R. Naidu said the temple premises must be declared as a no-fly zone considering Agama Shastra and the sentiments of devotees. "Low-flying planes, helicopters and other aerial activities on the Tirumala hill are disturbing the sacred atmosphere around the Srivari temple," the temple board chairman said.
He added preventing aircraft from flying over the temple was essential to maintain the sacred atmosphere at the popular temple and for security reasons. “Declaring Tirumala a No-Flying Zone is a crucial step toward preserving the sanctity, cultural, and spiritual heritage of the sacred shrine,” he added.
The temple chairman urged the Union minister to take immediate action over the matter. Both the leaders belong to the same party, the Telugu Desam Party, a key member of the National Democratic Alliance.

The temple was recently in the news over adulteration in its well-known laddu prasadam. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said adulterated ghee was used to make the prasadam at the temple during previous Y.S. Jaganmoghan Reddy’s tenure. He charged the ghee was adulterated with animal fat.
Hearing the matter, the Supreme Court had appointed a Special Investigation Team led by Central Bureau of Investigation officials to probe the matter. The SIT recently arrested four dairy owners in connection with the probe and they were remanded.
