A 19-year-old student, who was preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), allegedly died by suicide in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur.

The body of Rohit Bhati, who hailed from Ras in Beawar, was found hanging in the hostel room on Monday.

Police have recovered a suicide note, which read:  “Sorry, forgive me Chinnu”.

Bhati came to Jodhpur a year ago and was staying in the hostel of ‘Diksha Classes’ located in Chaupasni Housing Board, Sector-17. According to reports, the hostel owner was the first to see his body and alert the police.

Bhati’s body was handed over to his family after the postmortem procedure.

Police have launched an investigation to find out whom he has apologised to and said the exact reason for the suicide could be ascertained after tracing his phone calls.

The suicides among students enrolled in Rajasthan’s coaching centres have seen an upward trend in recent years, prompting the state government to bring a bill in the assembly to reign in such centres.

The Rajasthan Coaching Centres (Control & Regulation) Bill, 2025 has been referred to the Select Committee after the opposition Congress raised concerns over certain provisions in the bill.

The Congress has blamed the state government for putting a heavy burden of stress on children by removing the minimum age criterion for taking coaching classes.

As per the bill, given the high-pressure environment in the coaching hubs, institutes will have to appoint mental health counsellors, psychologists and career advisers. Teachers will also undergo mental resilience training.
