A person died and eight persons suffered injuries as 11 coaches of the Bengaluru-Kamakhya AC Express train derailed near Nergundi railway station in Cuttack on Sunday. Relief efforts are underway and efforts are on to restore rail traffic on the affected track.
According to East Coast Railway officials, 11 coaches of the Kamakhya Express train derailed near Cuttack in Odisha and the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. The train derailed at Nirgundi near Manguli and eight persons suffered injuries in the accident. Police, fire and rescue personnel and senior railway officials rushed to the spot. The injured were rushed to hospital nearby. The train was heading to Kamakhya station in Assam's Guwahati from Bengaluru.

Odisha Fire Service Director-General Sudhansu Sarangi said, "The maximum number of injured persons should not be more than 10.”
Ashok Kumar Mishra, Chief Public Relations Officer of East Coast Railway said a relief train has reached the spot to take affected passengers to Kamakhya station. "Arrangements are being made to help the affected passengers reach their destinations. Our priority is to restore the line at the earliest and accordingly, other trains will be diverted," PTI reported quoting Mishra.

Divisional Railway Manager Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde said an enquiry has been initiated on the incident and relief efforts are on. Owing to the derailment, three trains--Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express and Purulia Express--were diverted.
Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sad the Assam government is in touch with Odisha government and added there are no casualties from Assam. “There are no casualties from Assam. 2 persons from the State - Willson Digal of Udalguri and Amiran Nisha of Baksa are injured and undergoing treatment. Both are out of danger,” he tweeted.
