Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Smruti Mandir in Nagpur, the memorial of the founders of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and paid tributes on Sunday. Modi also visited Deekshabhoomi and paid homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

The prime minister reached Nagpur on Sunday and paid tributes to the founders of RSS at Reshimbagh. Modi’s visit coincides with RSS’s Pratipada programme. The prime minister paid floral tributes to the memorial of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar and second sarsanghchalak M.S. Golwalkar.

Noting that the founding fathers dedicated their lives to the nation, Modi said the memorials are dedicated to the values of Indian culture, nationalism and the organisation. In a message written in Hindi in the message book at the venue, Modi said, “The memorial of the two strong pillars of RSS is an inspiration to lakhs of swayamsevaks who have dedicated themselves to the service of the nation. I am overwhelmed to visit the Smruti Mandir which cherishes the memories of Param Pujaniya Dr Hedgewar and Pujya Guruji,” PTI reported.

This was Modi’s first visit to the memorial after becoming the prime minister. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari accompanied the prime minister during the visit. Modi also met other functionaries of the RSS at the memorial.

Modi later visited Deekshabhoomi, the place where Dr Ambedkar embraced Buddhism along with his followers in 1956.

Modi will later today inaugurate the newly built airstrip for Unarmed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and the live munition and warhead testing facility at the Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited’s ammunition facility in Nagpur.
