Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has written to CBI director Alok Verma, to complain against the group of CBI officers investigating the Saradha Scam.

In his letter, Kumar requested the CBI chief to replace the existing team of officials with new and 'impartial' officers who could investigate the matter without any 'vendetta'.

Kumar refused to say anything about the contents of the letter.

Last month, the CBI sent Kumar an email, asking him to come to the CBI’s Kolkata office for questioning. Kumar has not responded to the CBI's call.

The Kolkata police commissioner was the commissioner of Bidhannagar when news of the Saradha Scam broke in 2014. Bidhannagar police was in charge of the investigation as the initial cases were lodged with the Bidhannagar police station. It was Kumar who sent officials to Kashmir and arrested Saradha boss Sudipta Sen and another director of the company, Debjani Mukherjee.

Trinamool Congress MP, Kunal Ghosh, who was then arrested in the case, gave a written statement to the CBI and termed Kumar as one of the main accused who destroyed all the evidences along with other officials of the state police.

CBI, after almost three years, is sending notices to most of the officers mentioned by Ghosh.

Kumar, in his letter, told the CBI that he was ready for inquiry.

“But all the documents need to be examined by officers who are impartial,” Kumar said.

He also said that he would be ready to furnish all details to such impartial investigating officials.

CBI officers have maintained a studied silence on the issue of questioning state police officers and have refused to comment on the matter.
