Tesla CEO Elon Musk is selling a new electronic music track about NFTs, or non-fungible tokens, as an NFT. Apparently, the techno song about NFTs has been produced by him.
However, Musk did not include a link to the NFT, so it is not clear if it is already live or if Musk plans to initiate the sale at a later date. It is also not clear on which platform Musk intends to sell the NFT.
On Monday, the billionaire entrepreneur shared the song on Twitter, where it has become a viral hit with over 6 million views already. The music video attached to the song shows the words "Vanity Trophy" orbiting around a golden orb. The word "NFT" gets repeated over and over again in the techno track, and a female vocalist sings lyrics like "NFT for your vanity" and "computers never sleep." Also in the video are golden "doges"—the meme on which the dogecoin cryptocurrency is based.
Tesla invested $1.5 billion in bitcoin last month and plans to accept it as a form of payment for its electric vehicles in the future.
“Non-fungible” more or less means that it’s unique and can’t be replaced with something else. NFTs can really be anything digital such as drawings and music, but a lot of the current excitement is around using the tech to sell digital art.
NFTs have gained prominence recently as enthusiasts and investors scramble to spend enormous sums of money on items that only exist online. Last month, musician and artist Grimes, who is dating Elon Musk, sold some animations she made on a website called Nifty Gateway for more than $6 million.
