Users of X, formerly Twitter, took to the social media platform to ask its own AI large-learning model, Grok 2, for their “X Score” on Sunday, only to find themselves just getting a paltry 38 out of 100. While this score will get an F in almost every examination in India, users were more than amused, sharing their “flunking” at social credit on the platform. But did X really release such a feature?
This came at the heel of the owner of X, Elon Musk, announcing that a new algorithm tweak would be “coming soon” that prioritises informational and entertaining content over negative posts. “Our goal is to maximise unregretted user-seconds. Too much negativity is being pushed that technically grows user time, but not unregretted user time,” he said, backing the move.
However, users took to Grok 2 the following day to check their credit scores, something the internet together assumed was a possible system that may be used to bring the proposed change by Musk to reality. Users soon found out that the AI gave them all 38 out of 100, possibly the lowest score, to the questions: "What is my reputation score on X?" and "What is my X score?"
Yet, further tinkering with X’s AI assistant and posing the question, “What is my social credit score on Twitter?” Grok 2 made it clear that no such system existed.
“There isn’t an official ‘social credit score’ on Twitter (now known as X) like the one implemented in China,” replied the AI assistant. Funnily, it also referenced posts from other users on X, stating that an “informal ‘X Score’ has been humorously estimated for some users, reflecting their activity and interactions on the platform.”
“This score is not official and doesn’t affect real-world services or rights but can give a playful insight into one’s social standing or influence within the community,” it said.
No such social credit score has been rolled out on X, confirms Elon Musk
This take was also substantiated by Elon Musk later on Sunday, clearly stating that no social credit score was rolled out for users by the platform.
For the bright sparks out there, no change has yet been made to the algorithm.

“No change has yet been made to the algorithm,” Musk posted on the platform, before sarcastically quipping, “If you’re wondering why you’re not getting more views, look in the mirror.”
Musk also assured that any and all changes made to the algorithm would be posted publicly.
The anecdotal “X Scores” of users, despite them not being systematically calculated or recognised by X, did send most of them on a tweeting spree, but it looks like
