Meet Archie Schiller, Australia's 7-year-old co-captain in Melbourne Test

When the Australian team walks into the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday in the third Test against India, little Archie would be realising his dream of co-captaining the national team―call it a Christmas miracle, if you will.

Archie Schiller was included in the Australia squad for the third Test at Melbourne. Captain Tim Paine conveyed the news to Archie on his birthday and the official announcement was made a day later, on Sunday.

The young leg-spinner from Adelaide had received the news of his inclusion earlier this month through a phone call from coach Justin Langer. Following this, Archie underwent a training session with his heroes before the first Test.

Make-A-Wish Australia made it possible for Archie, who suffers from a heart condition, to lead the national team alongside captain Paine. Archie, who has had three life-saving surgeries so far, had said that he wanted to captain Australia when his father asked him what he wanted to do.

Paine said that it is “great to have him around” and the team is looking forward to Archie's “debut on Boxing Day”.

Australia would look to dominate the third Test on December 26 and take the lead in the ongoing series. India won the first Test by 31 runs at Adelaide while Australia made up for it with a thumping 146-run win in the second Test at Perth to level the series 1-1.
