Play on the third day of the fourth and final Test at Sydney between India and Australia on Saturday was called off nearly 17 overs ahead of schedule due to bad light and rain. At the end of day three of the Sydney Test, Australia were 236 for six in their first innings with Peter Handscomb (28) and Pat Cummins (25) at the crease. India had scored 622 for 7 in their first innings.

Marcus Harris (79) had ensured a solid start for Australia in the first session, taking the score to 72 with Usman Khawaja, before the latter fell to Kuldeep Yadav for 27. Harris and Marnus Labuschagne then joined forces to put 56 runs together, before Harris was bowled by Ravindra Jadeja. Australia then lost

Labuschagne (38) and Stuart Marsh (8) in quick succession.

Travis Head and Handscomb put 40 runs together before Head (20) was caught and bowled by Yadav, who also bowled Australian captain Tim Paine for five runs. Yadav was the pick of the Indian bowlers on the third day with three wickets, while Jadeja claimed two wickets and Mohammed Shami accounted for the wicket of Labuschagne.

Play on the fourth day is scheduled to start half-an-hour early to account for time lost on Saturday.
