India made history winning its first Test series on Australian soil on Monday when the fourth and final match was drawn at Sydney due to rain. India beat the hosts 2-1.

India had scored 622/7 and bowled out Australia for 300 in the first innings. The hosts were forced to follow on and had been at 6/0 in their second innings when play was called off due to bad light on day four.

Rain played spoilsport on day five and washed out the morning session after which the match was called off at 2.30pm local time.

Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant's brilliant display with the bat helped India post a mammoth score in their first innings. A distressed Australia could not rise up to the challenge posed by the visiting team and soon suffered a batting collapse that saw them get bundled out for 300 on day four.

India enforced the follow on and Kuldeep Yadav managed to pick his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket on day four.

The visitors had won the first Test in Adelaide by 31 runs and the third Test in Melbourne by 137 runs. Australia fought back in the second Test at Perth and won it by 146 runs.
