Spain's Carolina Marin defeated India's Saina Nehwal to cruise into the final of the $350,000 Malaysia Masters in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Marin defeated Saina in straight sets of 21-16 and 21-13 on Saturday.
With the loss, Saina, who had impressed with her comeback form, is out of the Malaysia Masters tournament. She had reached the semis after a hard-fought straight-game win over former world champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan on Friday.
The 28-year-old from Hyderabad had won the title in 2017 and was a runners-up in the 2011 edition of Malaysia Masters.
While Saina and Marin were neck-and-neck in the initial sessions of the game, soon the former was seen giving away points. The winner of the second semifinal, between Thailand's Ratchanok Intanon and Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei, will face Marin in the final on Sunday.
