Chris Gayle may have announced his retirement from one-dayers post the 2019 World Cup, but his exploits with the bat has not diminished one bit. Gayle, during West Indies' first ODI against England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, surpassed Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi's record of hitting the most number of sixes in international cricket.

The West Indies superstar now has 477 sixes (in 444 innings) to his name: 276 in ODIs, 103 in T20Is and 98 in Tests. Afridi's record was 476 sixes from 524 international matches.

New Zealand's Brendon McCullum is in third place with 398 sixes, followed by Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya (352) and India's Rohit Sharma (349).

Gayle had announced earlier this week that he would retire from One Day Internationals after the 2019 ICC World Cup. He was recalled to the West Indies squad for the first two ODIs in the ongoing series against England.

Gayle also holds the record for the most ODI hundreds (23) by a West Indies batsman, and is their second-leading run-scorer in the ODIs with 9,727 runs.
