Yet another match at the ICC World Cup 2019 was abandoned due to rain, as India and New Zealand were forced to split points, at Nottingham on Thursday.

The start was delayed by soggy outfield from overnight showers. But any hopes of a truncated match were doused as the drizzle refused to abate. Umpires Marais Erasmus and Paul Reiffel, after several inspections, finally decided to call off the match without even a bowl being bowled.

This was the fourth match to be either called off or abandoned in the rain-hit World Cup, with many questioning the absence of reserve days for group matches. The ICC has already defended its decision to not have reserve days for the group matches.

New Zealand lead the table with seven points while India edged ahead of England to the third position with five points.

India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a highly-anticipated encounter on June 16, which too is likely to be affected by rain.
