Even as protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) continue to rage across the nation, Sana Ganguly, daughter of former Indian team captain and BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly, took to Instagram to share what appeared to be her take on the whole issue.

In an Instagram story, 18-year-old Sana shared an excerpt from noted writer Khushwant Singh’s 2003 book ‘The End of India’ in which he lambasted fascist ideology in India. In a paragraph that aptly describes the current political scenario in the country, the author had pointed out that every fascist regime needs groups they can demonise. Today, it could be a religious group, but tomorrow it could be women wearing skirts or people eating meat, he had written.

“Every fascist regime needs communities and groups it can demonize in order to thrive. It starts with one group or two. But it never ends there. A movement built on hate can only sustain itself by continually creating fear and strife. Those of us today who feel secure because we are not Muslims or Christians are living in a fool’s paradise. The Sangh is already targeting the Leftist historians and “Westernized” youth. Tomorrow it will turn its hate on women who wear skirts, people who eat meat, drink liquor, watch foreign films, don’t go on annual pilgrimages to temples, use toothpaste instead of danth manjan, prefer allopathic doctors to vaids, kiss or shake hands in greeting instead of shouting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. No one is safe. We must realize this if we hope to keep India alive,” read her Instagram story.

However, according to media reports, the Instagram story may have been pulled down as it was not seen a few hours after it was posted. Usually, an Instagram story lasts for 24 fours, unless taken down by the user or the social media itself.
