England footballer Dele Alli and his brother were robbed at knifepoint at their home in Barnet in North London on Wednesday. Alli suffered minor injuries after two men broke in wielding knives and fled with hundreds of thousands of pounds worth valuables, reports said.

“Two males gained entry to the property and stole items of jewellery, including watches, before fleeing,” the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

“Two male occupants at the property suffered minor facial injuries after being assaulted. They did not require hospital treatment. No arrests; enquiries into the circumstances continue.”

The 24-year-old midfielder and his adopted brother Harry Hickford were in the house along with their girlfriends and a friend when the incident happened, reports said.

The Tottenham Hotspur player took to Twitter to let his followers know that he was okay, and thanked them for their support.

“Thank you for all the messages. Horrible experience but we’re all okay now. Appreciate the support,” Alli tweeted.

The Spurs, meanwhile, released a statement asking people to come forward with information to help police with their investigation.

“We have been offering our support to Dele and those isolating with him,” the statement read.

“We encourage anyone with any information to help the police with their investigation to come forward.”

The Spurs’ official Twitter account further tweeted its support to Alli. “We’re with you,” it tweeted.

The Premier League was cleared to restart by beginning of June. However, this seems unlikely as several players have voiced concerns over safety and precautions amid the coronavirus pandemic.
