Tributes have started pouring in for legendary wrestler The Undertaker after he announced in the finale of a docu-series that he had no intention of stepping back into the WWE ring.

The Undertaker, whose real name is Mark William Calaway, made the announcement in The Last Ride, the docu-series on him, on Sunday.

The Undertaker said, "Never say never, but at this point in my life and in my career, I have no desire to get back in the ring. I'm at a point, it's time this cowboy really rides away."

The Undertaker (55) began his career in 1990 with the wrestling federation that would become the WWE.

The WWE posted several tweets on The Undertaker, beginning from before the streaming of The Last Ride and used the hashtag #ThankYouTaker, which was subsequently used by fans.

Many fans played up the theme their childhood was "officially over", paying tribute to The Undertaker's three-decade-long career.

Wrestler AJ Styles, who was the last opponent The Undertaker faced, tweeted, "Still floored by the experience and reaction to the #BoneyardMatch at #WrestleMania. If it was the last time @undertaker laced up his boots, Iā€™m honored it was against me. #TheLastRide".

WWE host and ring announcer Mike Rome tweeted, "Thank you for making our childhood so cool. Thank you for the journeys you took us on. Thank you for growing with us, and evolving. Thank you for being larger than life. Thank you for everything you have given to wrestling. You will always be #ThePhenom. #ThankYouTaker".

Wrestling commentator Scott Fishman tweeted he would always remember "the rivalry between The Undertaker and Mankind. One that spanned years, a ring, a Boiler Room, Buried Alive, Hell in a Cell. Those two went all in with every match".
