Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy won the Premier League’s Golden Boot after most number of goals in the 2019-20 season. Despite not being able to score in Leicester City’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday, Vardy finished the season with 23 goals.
At 33, Vardy is the oldest player to win the Golden Boot award and the first from Leicester City.
“It’s a wonderful individual achievement,” said Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers. “We wouldn’t be where we are without his quality and goals. He’s a joy to work with, has a great mentality and has such quality. It’s a huge accolade and we’re all delighted for him.”
Behind Vardy, Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Southampton’s Danny Ings finished with 22 goals. Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling finished third with 20.
With Sunday’s loss, Leicester City missed out on a Champions League place, and settled for the fifth place in the Premier League table.
Meanwhile, Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson won the Golden Glove for most clean sheets (16) in the 2019-20 season by narrowly edging out Burnley’s Nick Pope, who had collected 15.
Five goalkeepers shared the third position keeping 13 clean sheets: David de Gea (Manchester United), Rui Patricio (Wolves), Dean Henderson (Sheffield United), Alission Becker (Liverpool) and Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City).
