Cristiano Ronaldo was confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week, but his sister, Katia Aveiro, seems unconvinced at the seriousness of the deadly coronavirus, and has lambasted the pandemic, calling it the “biggest fraud” she has seen.
The Portuguese football federation on Tuesday confirmed the news in a statement, adding that the Juventus star is asymptomatic and in isolation.
Aveiro, meanwhile, took to Instagram and expressed her doubts and frustration after her brother’s positive test.
“If Cristiano Ronaldo has to wake up the world, I have to say that he really is an envoy of God.
“Thank you! I believe that today thousands of people will believe in the pandemic, in the tests and in the measures taken, as much as I do ... THE BIGGEST FRAUD I HAVE SEEN SINCE I WAS BORN. There is a phrase that I read today and that I applaud standing up: ‘Enough of a world of puppets’. Someone open your eyes, please,” Aveiro wrote.
Ronaldo missed the UEFA Nations League match against Sweden on Wednesday which Portugal won 3-0. He is expected to miss Juventus’ games the rest of this week. It is not yet certain for how long the 35-year-old will be in isolation as the federation did not clarify anymore details.
“Following the positive test, the remaining players underwent new tests on Tuesday morning, and all produced a negative result and are available to Fernando Santos for training this afternoon,” the statement read.
Portugal head coach Santos confirmed that Ronaldo was managing the situation “very well” after his positive test.
“He is in the room, saying he wants to play, he talks to us from upstairs (from his balcony). He is completely asymptomatic, he is okay, without any symptoms, he doesn’t even know what happened to him,” Santos told reporters.
