New Zealand captain Kane Williamson on Wednesday announced that he and his wife Sarah Raheem have been blessed with a baby girl. Williamson took to Instagram to share a picture of his newborn with his fans and followers.
“Overjoyed to welcome a beautiful baby girl into our family,” he wrote along with the image of him holding his daughter.
Responding to the post, his Indian Premier League team Sunrisers Hyderabad left a congratulatory message. “Congratulations, Kane!” SRH wrote, along with a few love and heart emojis.
The official handle of the New Zealand women’s cricket team also commented, “Future WHITE FERN!”
Indian cricketers Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, his SRH teammates, Australia’s David Warner and Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan, also conveyed their congratulatory messages.
The skipper had missed the second Test against West Indies last week to attend the birth of his first child. New Zealand coach Gary Stead had said that Williamson would be away during the time to be with his wife Sarah in Tauranga.
Tom Latham had taken over the captain’s role in his absence and led New Zealand to a 2-0 whitewash against the visitors. New Zealand are currently third in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings.
Williamson will be seen in the upcoming T20I series, starting this Friday, against Pakistan. He is expected to miss the first match, but will return for the rest of the matches.
The captain’s career-best score of 251 in the first Test against West Indies had helped him climb the ICC Test batsmen rankings recently to reach the number three spot, with 886 points. The second spot is held by India skipper Virat Kohli while Australia’s star batsman Steve Smith reigns as number one.
