Harbhajan Singh, Chennai Super Kings part ways ahead of 2021 IPL

The off-spinner said he will “remember fondly” the memories he has made with the team

Harbhajan Singh on Wednesday took to Twitter to announce that his contract with Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings has ended, adding that he will “remember fondly” the memories he has made with the team.

The off-spinner also thanked the CSK management, staff and the fans for the “wonderful” two years he spent with the team. Harbhajan played for CSK in 2018 and 2019. He was part of the CSK team, often referred to as the “dads army”, that won the IPL title in 2018.

However, the 40-year-old had withdrawn from the 2020 edition in the UAE citing personal reasons.

“As my contract comes to an end with @ChennaiIPL, playing for this team was a great experience..beautiful memories made &some great friends which I will remember fondly for years to come..Thank you @ChennaiIPL, management, staff and fans for a wonderful 2years.. All the best..,” he tweeted.

Before joining CSK in 2018, Harbhajan was with Mumbai Indians since the beginning of the tournament in 2008.

The cricketer, who was part of the 2011 World Cup-winning Indian team, has played 160 IPL matches and has 150 wickets to his name. He has represented India in 103 Tests, 236 ODIs and 28 T20Is.

Earlier, the IPL governing council had announced that ahead of the next edition of the IPL, the deadline for players’ retention will be January 21 and the trading window for franchises will close on February 4.
