Golf great Tiger Woods has left the hospital and is at home as he continues his recovery from injuries he sustained during a car crash last month. Woods issued a statement on social media on Tuesday saying that he was “happy” to be back home.
The golf legend also thanked the various hospital staff who treated him and his fans for their “support and encouragement”.
“Happy to report that I am back home and continuing my recovery. I am so grateful for the outpouring of support and encouragement that I have received over the past few weeks,” he wrote.
“Thank you to the incredible surgeons, doctors, nurses and staff at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. You have all taken such great care of me and I cannot thank you enough.
“I will be recovering at home and working on getting stronger every day,” the statement concluded.
The 15-time major champion was involved in a serious car crash on February 23 when his vehicle hit a median, struck a tree and flipped over several times in a Los Angeles suburb.
The Los Angeles County Alex Villanueva had confirmed that Woods was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and it was “purely an accident”.
The 45-year-old had undergone surgery for serious injuries on his right leg at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Centre where he was taken right after the crash. A rod was also inserted into his shin bone along with several screws and pins to stabilise his foot and ankle.
Woods’s injuries have raised questions on his ability to compete at the top level again as the golfer was already recovering from a fifth back operation.
