Ireland has beaten West Indies to enter the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup 2022 after scoring a nine-wicket victory over the two-time champions. The winners restricted Windies to 146 runs with some impressive bowling by Gareth Delany, who marked his career-best 3-16 at Hobart on Friday.

The match was a one-sided affair, with Paul Stirling's unbeaten 66 from 48 balls helping Ireland knock out the Carribean team from the tournament. Lorcan Tucker scored 45 not out from 35 balls.

Brandon King scored an unbeaten 62 for the West Indies, but it did little to spare the team an early exit, the first time since the inaugural 2007 tournament in South Africa.

Windies suffered a bowling failure as Stirling and captain Andy Balbirnie laid the foundation for the win with a 73-run opening partnership before Balbirnie's run ended with 37. Lorcan Tucker then joined Stirling.

Tucker's final smash over cover for four sealed the victory for the Ireland, which will now join Sri Lanka and the Netherlands in the Super 12.

"It's obviously an incredible day for us," Delany told media post match. "Firstly, it's a dream come true. We're ecstatic about what we're going to be able to do over the next few weeks," he added.
