Heath Streak, former Zimbabwe cricket captain, died at the age of 49 after prolonged battle with colon and liver cancer. The news of his death was confirmed by his wife, Nadine Streak, in an emotional Facebook post.

"In the early hours of this morning, Sunday the 3rd of September 2023, the greatest love of my life and the father of my beautiful children, was carried to be with the angels from his home where he wished to spend his last days surrounded by his family and closest loved ones," Nadine wrote

"He was covered in love and peace and did not walk off the park alone. Our souls are joined for eternity Streaky. Till I hold you again,” she added.

The latest development comes a week after fake reports of Heath's death were circulated on social media. His former teammate, Henry Olonga, who had posted the unverified news on his official X profile, later apologised for the gaffe.

He was born in Bulawayo, a city in southwest Zimbabwe, on March 16, 1974. He made his international debut in December 1993 and is the sole Zimbabwe cricketer who scored 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests and 2000 runs and 200 wickets in ODIs.

In 2021, Streak was banned for eight years from cricketing activities for violating the ICC's anti-corruption policy. He allegedly leaked inside-information about T20 leagues including the Indian Premier League.
