The new sensation of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill, on Sunday became the fastest player to score 2000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs). The right-handed opener achieved the feat during India's World Cup match against New Zealand in Dharamshala.
It took Shubman Gill 38 innings to reach the milestone, bettering the tally of South Africa's Hashim Amla who needed 40 innings to do the same.
The 24-year-old, who scored 53 against Bangladesh in his previous outing, was 14 runs short of the milestone coming into the match against New Zealand. He achieved the feat in the seventh over of the Indian run chase when he smashed Trent Boult for a boundary.

He later departed after making 26 off 31 balls in the 14th over. He became the second victim of Lockie Ferguson who had dismissed Gill's opening partner and captain Rohit Sharma for 46 off 40.
Interestingly, it was reportedly against India that Hashim Amla crossed the 2000-mark on January 21, 2011, at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth.
Down with dengue, Gill had missed India's first two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan before making a comeback.
