Sri Lankan all-rounder and T20 captain Wanindu Hasaranga became the second-fastest bowler to pick up 100 T20I wickets, when he took 2/19 in the second T20I against Afghanistan at Dambulla yesterday.
He also became only the second Sri Lankan bowler to achieve the milestone, after former pacer Lasith Malinga, and eleventh overall. While Malinga reached the 100-wicket mark in 76 matches, Hasaranga did it in 63 games. Afghanistan star spinner Rashid Khan is the fastest to do it – in 53 matches.
Hasaranga now has 101 wickets at an average of 15.36 and an economy rate of 6.78.
His exploits with the ball and bat (22 off nine balls) helped Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan by 72 runs. In the first T20I, too, he shone with both the ball and the bat, scoring 67 off 32 balls and picking up 1/20.
Sri Lanka lead the three-match series 2-0.
