Former India star all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is likely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket from Gurdaspur, the Times of India reported. Yuvraj had, reportedly, met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently, leading to speculations of him going to join the saffron party soon.
Actor Sunny Deol is the incumbent MP from Gurdaspur, but his absence from the constituency and the Lok Sabha seems to have forced the BJP to look for a new face. Yesteryear cine great Vinod Khanna, too, has represented Gurdaspur in the past.
Yuvraj is one of India's most celebrated cricketers, with the Man of the Series award in India's victorious campaign in the 2011 ODI World Cup being the highlight of his storied career. He scored 362 runs and took 15 wickets in the tournament.
Navjot Singh Sidhu likely to return to BJP
Meanwhile, TOI also reported that Congress's Navjot Singh Sidhu is likely to return to the BJP. The former cricketer, who is considered close to Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has been at loggerheads with the party's leadership in Punjab, and has been holding rallies of his own.
Sidhu is, reportedly, in talks with the saffron party for a Lok Sabha ticket from Amritsar. BJP leader Somdev Sharma has expressed confidence that if the party fields Sidhu from Amritsar, he will win.
