Trying to reverse-sweep Rahman, Warner gifted a priceless moment for Pathirana

David Warner was giving the Chennai Super Kings a hard time. The experienced Australian batter, alongside Prithvi Shaw, produced some clean hitting to construct a 93-run opening wicket stand from just 57 deliveries.

David Warner, who was dismissed for 49 in his last IPL game against Rajasthan Royals, managed to bring up his fifty at the ACA-VCDA Cricket Stadium on Sunday. However, his innings was cut shirt against the run of play thanks to a stunning piece of fielding by Sri Lankan seamer Matheesha Pathirana.

Warner's free-flowing innings which included five boundaries and three sixes came to a close in Pathirana's hands in the third ball of the 10th over bowed by Mustafirzur Rahman. After an expensive first over, the Bangladesh speedster came back to hand CSK the much-needed breakthrough.

Trying to reverse-sweep Rahman, Warner gifted Pathirana a moment to remember for the rest of his life. Watching the ball flying past him towards the boundary, Pathirana jumped to his right and completed a one-handed catch.

The left-arm seamer bowled a slower length delivery from over the wicket and Warner connected the reverse sweep well. However, fielding at the short third, the Sri Lankan youngster decided to go for the ball and the fully stretched attempt yielded the result he wanted. A shell-shocked Warner had no option but to walk back as Pathirana managed to hold on to the ball as he came down crashing.

DC vs CSK: Toss

Earlier,  Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to bat against Chennai Super Kings in their IPL match here on Sunday.

While CSK decided to go the same playing XI, DC made two changes, bringing in Ishant Sharma and Prithvi Shaw in place of Kuldeep Yadav and Ricky Bhui. "Kuldeep has a niggle," Pant said during the toss.
